taking back the title

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I know I may be a little late on getting this information but I still have to comment on how crazy some people can be about competition. Sure we may have stolen the record for most snow angels from North Dakota but that doesn’t mean they not only had to take it back but they also kicked us in the nuts. How? Simple, the number of registered participants, their actual record number, is like 1/3 over are population of Houghton. Basically we need to hall in people from Michigan State, since they were the first to offer their services, in order to have a shot at this. Damn them.

Academic Inbreeding

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

We all have classes we don’t like. You don’t? Good for you, this article isn’t for you then. Various reasons can be the cause of this: instructor can’t teach, book is illegible, the man looks like he just died recently. Granted, I don’t have a problem if the living dead were teaching me, if they can actually help me learn. Which brings me to my point of learning, which I’m paying for.

Winter Mini Baja Race

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Mini Baja CarHoly Crap was this a fun event to attend. On Feb 17th the MTU Mini Baja team hosted its annual Winter Baja Competion at Lake Linden MI. There were schools from all over the midwest with lots of loud engines tearing up the snow course and just having a great time. The best part was the big air competition at the end. Watching those cars jump up in the air was so sweet. I’m still waiting for the video to be re-edited for the web, yes James I’m talking about you, so anytime now… This was held in the Lake Linden park just like last year. Despite the towns short notice for setting up the course it appeared that it all worked out well in the end.

I’ve a few more photos taken from the facebook event after the jump.

Keweenawesome fest.

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Keweenawesome FylerI personally do not consider the Keweenaw to be that awesome, but since when does my opinion count? So appearently the few people that do think the Keweenaw is awesome, mainly WMTU, have decided to throw a festival. Yes, in winter. Anyway I’ve got the listings of the bands taken from the facebook page after the jump.

Not gonna lie, I kind of wish I went…

get a job

Monday, February 26th, 2007

After going to the Winter Job to search for a full job I must say it is quite easier to find an interview then for an Intership/Co-op. It kind of makes me upset but glad to know that graduates have it easier. It’s just on of those things that makes you feel better about graduation.

On a side note, one of the companies was impressed with Tech’s honesty since he lost his PDA and was able to recover it since it was turned in to the lost and found. The rest of the article is here on Tech Today’s page.

20,000 Watts of Snow

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Completed AES main speakers The MTU AES (Audio Engineering Society) has done it once again. This time they have created an awesome circle of sound with two satellite systems pointing into the larger subwoofer area. I wish I could find a photo from the All nighter with everyone in the center if it just dancing like a drum circle from ancient days… It was quite the visual.

More after the jump…

MTU Female Import Tax Proposed

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

So its truly amazing how much better the guy to girl ratio is during the week of carnival. I mean if you look at the general populous of men and women during the normal year it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that the odds suck and most of the girls are either taken or the have a reason for not being taken.

One of my housemates suggested that MTU make a tax for any females that are “girl friends” and would be staying in the dorms with their male companion during the carnival week. While this is a horrible idea this could be the best idea for the university’s rising tuition problem. I would have no problem charging people more money for allowing their girl friend to stay for the carnival week.

Look at the facts. First, I live off campus so the tax wouldn’t apply to me. Second, I don’t have a girlfriend therefore making this so called tax useless in my case. But now for all those unlucky fellas that still live in the dorms and are fortunate enough to have a girlfriend. $$$$$$. Yes! That means a lower tuition cost thanks to greater taxation! I love it. It benefits me to the extreme. Though, knowing the money grubbing greedy bastard our university is, we will most likely not have a lower tuition. Sigh…
