MTU IS COLD

So we are predicted to get about 4 to 6 inches of snow and by the results of today I say we are well on our way to that goal.

I was leaving Applebee’s tonight and saw a few police cars coming up the highway and was trying to figure out where they were heading when I noticed a car sitting in the snow. The amazing part is how did it end up there. It just shows you that even the UP is not that great at driving in snowy conditions even though the snow lasts and is more intense then lots of other places in the U.S.

This year the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternities has decided not to make Senior Walk t-shirts. The word on the street is that every year Sig Eps order less and less shirts since sales are always bad the previous year, so this year they have decided to do away with the whole hassle. The really disappoiting thing is that the money they raise goes to American Lung Cancer Association and they will not be receiving these funds this year. I feel sadden by this as I am finally a senior and want to go on senior walk… maybe I will go shirtless…

I really can’t explain to weather from the night before. It was so bad trying to drive from campus to my house at 11:30PM that I had to stop several times since I was unable to see anything past the hood of my car! The thunder and lightening didnt help anything either. Crazy U.P. snow. The Daily Mining Gazette has a nice article about the storm weather from the previous night.

Several rumors have been floating around about why the school was actually closed today since the roads and campus path ways were cleared before 8AM this morning. One of the rumors is that due to the weather from the previous night, the State of Michigan forced them to close due to safety concerns. Another rumor decided it was difficult for most students, faculty, and staff to safely leave their residences due to massive snow piles in their driveways. Nothing official has been released from the school, at least from what I have heard. Either way, it was nice to have a snow day!

This is why I love our wonderful school. I mean we are located in a more or less rural area, compared to Lansing, Ann Arbor,  Detriot, Grand Rapids, etc… but come on does it really take a freaking school to figure out that Houghton has a lower cost of living.  Appearently.  MTU has proved that it is really cheaper to here (in Houghton). I’m dumb founded.

Louis (AKA Lou) Koskey was apparently using a fire extinguisher and running up and down the hallway in his underwear no less banging on doors and just being an over all jackass! I love the part of the first new report that says it took multiple officers and what seems to be several attempts with a stun-gun and pepper spray to bring this kid down. I’m not even mad more like impressed that he could put of that much of a fight. The first officer even called in back up, and if you live you in houghton you’d understand that while 3 other depts. sounds like alot of people its really like 3 more officers showed up. Holy Hell! I really have to give it to the officers though cause I’m pretty sure if he didn’t listen the first time I asked I would have had no hesitation and just opened a can!
