MTU Comics

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

I really think someone needs to make more comics like this about MTU. I really really miss this sort of stuff. The comic below is basically what its like every year due to freshman calling home/girlfriend/everyone else and no one is able to get a signal due to the limited cell towers.

MTU Comic - Mobile Phone

If someone is willing to make a comic, they can sure post it on MTUISCOLD.COM

Stand Up for Disabilities

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Stand Up for disabilities PosterI am not sure if they should have used this same name for the event. I mean I like the cause but the name doesnt seem to fit the bill. The posters themselves like to make fun of the situation. There is a kid in a wheel chair with people standing next to him. I think it almost makes fun of people in wheel chairs… I don’t know what I would name it but i am not so sure i would have a standathon. Either way I’m glad the event went well.

For those of you not familiar with the event I have this next information from the Bay Cliff Health Camp

The Residence Life at Michigan Tech University is pleased to inform you of a new event on campus–Standup for Disabilities. The purpose of this event is to make the students and community in the Keweenaw District more knowledgeable about the difference they can make in the Upper Peninsula. The event encourages students to collect pledges from family members and friends, based on how many hours the student stands for the duration of the event. All pledges will be donated to Bay Cliff Health Camp, a summer therapy center located in Marquette County, serving physically disabled children throughout the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michigan.

Seniors Walking Shirtless

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Crappy Senior Walk 2007 Shirt. This year the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternities has decided not to make Senior Walk t-shirts. The word on the street is that every year Sig Eps order less and less shirts since sales are always bad the previous year, so this year they have decided to do away with the whole hassle. The really disappoiting thing is that the money they raise goes to American Lung Cancer Association and they will not be receiving these funds this year. I feel sadden by this as I am finally a senior and want to go on senior walk… maybe I will go shirtless…

Lollipops and Rainbows

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

KP FlagApparently this week, Mar 25-30, is Keweenaw Pride Week here at MTU. And of course they have tomark up the sidewalks with chalk just like every other student organization to announce this festive occasion. They even have a schedule of events all lined up, listed below. I often wonder how many people actually attend these types of events. I mean the school gives them money, your money, to put this on so you think people might be slightly interested to see how it is spent. I am at least. I wonder if the largest group of people shows up for the “Seventh Annual Drag Show and Amateur Competition.” You really have to give it to them for setting up such a large schedule of events, impressive. Oh, I actually have the list of events after the jump.

ASMTU may not be for you!

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Again the USG (Undergraduate Student Government) is trying once again to get the ASMTU (associated students of michigan tech university) system passed. While I may not have all the details I am pretty sure it didn’t pass last year for a good reason. So why are they at it again? I have no fucking clue. In short USG wants to follow the same model as the U.S. Government. What does that mean for all the student organizations… They are all fucked. Not only will groups have to go through 6 hoops to get funding but they will have to go through 6 hoops per board. So if a group wants money they will need to go to the board which they are classified under, like take the Lode for example. If the MTU Lode wants reimbursement for something they will then need to talk to the Media Board which will need to the House of Reps. The House will need to meet with the Senate and discuss this over during the Joint Ways & Means Committee Meeting, and who knows how often that group will meet. The House and Senate don’t like each other anyway. (Colbert would have a field day with this little fiasco.) Once these two groups can come to a happy agreement it will then have to go to the Treasurer for final approval, which could take a year.
If you are smart you wont vote for ASMTU. I think the best part of it all is when this will end, April 1st. Hopefully its not one of those dumb april fool’s jokes… Wait I get it. ASMTU is the joke!
