Sled Heads Go Big

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

The MTU Sled Heads created a large jump in the SDC parking lot during Winter Carnival 2007. This is one of the members video edits he created of the free style event.

20,000 Watts of Snow

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Completed AES main speakers The MTU AES (Audio Engineering Society) has done it once again. This time they have created an awesome circle of sound with two satellite systems pointing into the larger subwoofer area. I wish I could find a photo from the All nighter with everyone in the center if it just dancing like a drum circle from ancient days… It was quite the visual.

More after the jump…

MTU Female Import Tax Proposed

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

So its truly amazing how much better the guy to girl ratio is during the week of carnival. I mean if you look at the general populous of men and women during the normal year it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that the odds suck and most of the girls are either taken or the have a reason for not being taken.

One of my housemates suggested that MTU make a tax for any females that are “girl friends” and would be staying in the dorms with their male companion during the carnival week. While this is a horrible idea this could be the best idea for the university’s rising tuition problem. I would have no problem charging people more money for allowing their girl friend to stay for the carnival week.

Look at the facts. First, I live off campus so the tax wouldn’t apply to me. Second, I don’t have a girlfriend therefore making this so called tax useless in my case. But now for all those unlucky fellas that still live in the dorms and are fortunate enough to have a girlfriend. $$$$$$. Yes! That means a lower tuition cost thanks to greater taxation! I love it. It benefits me to the extreme. Though, knowing the money grubbing greedy bastard our university is, we will most likely not have a lower tuition. Sigh…

I’m basically linking to MTU’s pages of photos since their photographer will do so much better at taking photos then I ever will. I’ve also found some local links for more Winter Carnival 2007 Photos.

All Nighter!

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Tonight is the infamous all nighter and I can’t wait to get into bed… I personally dont want to stay up all night but there will be plenty of people on campus that probably disagree.  Many will be working on statue to either finish up their month long or  week long statue. Some could be just starting tonight! In the end I’m pretty sure tonight is going to be quite interesting.  Hope to you see out there!

And The Queen Is…

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Congrats to Sarrah Jackson as she was the lucky winner of the 2007 Winter Carnival Queens competition. Lauren Bendes got 1st runner up and Brittany Gauthier got 2nd runner up. I remember that Nicole got Miss Congeniality and Audiance award. Some photos are here: http://www.mtu.edu/carnival/2007Queen/fifteen.htm

Our two MC’s Joel Chasnoff and Miss Michigan Angela Corsi, babe!, were also a great hoot for the seqway between candidates. I think the best part was how Joel was basically making fun of Angela and even the candidates. Also a guest appearence by Miss Teen Houghton County, Kiersten Birondo.

No Exams During Carni Week!

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

As one of my professors found out the hard way, lots of emails from angered students, part of MTU’s exam policy has a large line dedicated to make sure that everyone knows there are no exams to be held tuesday evening and the wednesday of Winter Carnival.

Here is the wonderful excerpt:

Exams during Winter Carnival Week

Hour exams shall not be given during that portion of Winter Carnival Week beginning at 6:00 pm, Tuesday. An hour exam is any major exam comprising a significant portion of a student’s overall grade and requiring major preparation.

Lighten Up

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

The Winter Carnival 2007 Queen Candidate appearently got a little upset when two clever students decided to modify some of her table tents.

The Original:

The Modified:

You kind of have to get them Photoshop Props but it was kind of mean. The best part about the situation is that some posted the photo on facebook and then tagged with the two guys names.

Tom Makowski & Justin Wojdula if you were looking for their facebook profiles…

Now the lucky bastards get to hear from the University, who exactly is up in the air, but at least they removed their tags, too bad is was a little to late.

MTU on the Daily Show

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

So while checking out random YouTube videos I noticed this post about being on the Daily Show from the last Winter Carnival (2006). It bsaically is mocking MTU for trying to make the guiness book of world records for stupid stuff like largest snowball fight and the largest snowball.
